Jason and the Argonauts

Jason and the Argonauts (2000)
Jason and the Argonauts (2000)

The movie is great and it is a good film to educate student who are taking up ancient Greeks lessons. I recommend it not for entertainment but for having an idea of ancient civilization.

This movie is all about the journey of Jason (Jason London) to get the golden fleece. Jason is the heir of the kingdom of Greece. His uncle killed the king which is Jason's Father and that he only escaped because of one of the loyal soldier of his father came to rescue him. he then came back to get his mother back and it is when the journey began of acquiring the Golden fleece. Also this movie has many themes like; revenge, love which is the love of Jason on her mother and his revenge on his uncle and that the bravery of Jason on their journey with the Argonauts. I'm pretty amazed about the cast of this movie because of their appropriate personality on their roles like when they give justice of Hercules (Brian Thompson) and Orpheus roles that I expected that Hercules is strong but I thought of Orpheus (Adrian Lester) as strong and muscular guy but in that case his very gentle and soft speaking gentleman.

The editing are not so great that it is most likely because we have now very advanced technology that it didn't match my expectations like the scenes of Zeus and Hera but other editing are nicely done that it turned out great like when Jason are on the island of women. The movie has many cut scenes that I really didn't see it coming unto the next. In my opinion I think the reason of the cut scenes is to minimize the duration of the movie because it is too long.

I also want to say that the sounds are great thanks to the sound engineers that the sound effects are nicely done like when harpies attacks with squeaks and the other nature sounds but the scenes in which Zeus and Hera, the sounds are delayed just that every time that scenes come I laugh it just didn't work for me maybe because I'm living with advanced techs. Lastly, the Cinematography of this movie had a great impact because this will judge the overall rating of the movie and it is great and nicely done. The old school style also had a positive view for me because i like old school style that it worked for me and with this last sentence, I want you to watch this even if you skip scenes you really can understand what is the story. This movie is good and nice that I recommend you to watch it especially if you are like me a student.

Jason and the Argonauts

Calling all movie lovers, students and people of all ages, watch Jason and the Argonauts released year 2000. This movie is based on the Greek mythology story of Jason’s adventure to retrieve the Golden Fleece. You will learn many values from this movie. The movie shows adventure, courage, friendship and hardships. This movie is full of adventure, adventures that can take you anywhere in your wildest dream. But sadly some effects are not good all. Right music and great cinematography brighten up the film but what’s brighter than the actors than the actors themselves. The actors portrayed their role very well. But there some that I didn’t like continue reading to know who’s who. Want to know more about Greek mythology then you should watch this movie. This is a great start and your gateway to Greek mythology. So get your popcorn and start rolling the film. Children are advice to watch with their parents. There are parts that are not suitable for young audiences.

The movie is all about the adventure of Jason and the Argonauts. It all started Jason returned home to reclaim his throne from his uncle, King Pelias. But Pelias sentenced him and his mother to death; to save themselves, Jason promised that he will retrieved the Golden Fleece. Believing that he is protected by the Gods, Jason sailed with the Argonauts. They’ve across many challenges before reaching the Golden Fleece. They passed all challenges and got the Golden Fleece back to their kingdom. But Pelias tried to kill Jason. Jason knew so he defend himself and kill Pelias. At the end Jason rule with his wife Medea. This story is based on Greek mythology so it shows the culture of Greece. Jason and the Argonauts showed teamwork along their journey. The Argonauts help Jason to retrieve the Golden Fleece. Through watching this movie we can learn that a person can change for good. The thief in the movie changes heart to serve Jason. Another is to rule is to lead not just for power. King Pelias take over the throne of his brother just for power and kill him.

In making a movie actors are the centre of attraction. Jason London who played Jason in the movie is emotionless. Jason should be fierce and ready to fight. But I salute him for doing his stunts. Olivia Williams, who played Hera, is very beautiful even without makeup. Angus Macfadyen acted who as Zeus should have silvered hair so we can easily recognize that his playing Zeus. Brian Thompson is really buff and tall. He played Hercules. The costumes of the actors and extras look real Greek clothing.

This movie was released on May 7, 2000. About the editing of the movie, here are my thoughts: some monsters do not look real, Like for example the bull and the dragon. But considering the technology before maybe it’s very impressive. Some scenes are not cut well. There are scenes that from excitement, the scene became sad and dull.

The music and the sound effects can add up to your senses. Simon Boswell was the one responsible for the music scoring.  But in this movie some scenes don’t have background music. So those scenes became dull and boring for me. As for the rest of the movie the scoring was great. It was very right for the scene, like for example when Jason and his crew are sailing through the ocean.  The thunder and lightning sound is very realistic.

There’s sound when Zeus is angry or annoyed at Hera.  here's what I can say about the movie's cinematography

When Zeus is angry the clouds darken, when his done the clouds turn to normal. The places where they shot the movie look like real Greek Times. I am very amaze that they really sailed through the sea. They captured the beautiful scenery of the ocean.

Water conservation

PICTURE A
AP PROJECT

This is how we started doing our group project for Araling Panlipunan
subject. We made a canvass painting with a theme of Water Conservation and by putting a meaningful slogan we can more express it strong for the viewers.

Our artist think of a creative design which we can or make viewers realize that water is important in life that we should help to conserve it and cleanse it. So picture A is our design that our artist think of.

PICTURE B
PICTURE C
We started to paint the drawing to maximize its expression and to be more creative because this is our project.  The water drop means that even a drop of water is important in our life and in our world that is why we draw the world inside it. The factories are destroying the river (Black paint) but it doesn't mean that infrastructures are bad it's just a symbolism to make our painting more expressive. On the other side of the water drop, there’s a forest with waterfall and a river going through the factories that in there the water is polluted but on the forest the water is still clean. We started to paint it with light colors to lift up its importance and significance to our world.
PICTURE D

Now the picture above is the half finished product and our slogan is "SAVE WATER, SAVE EARTH, SAVE LIVES" this means saving water will have a domino effect on our lives like if you save water you can earth, if you can save earth then you can save lives and with that we can say that water is really important in our lives. This project really great because we had a great time with each of the member and as students,we really think that this canvass will have a role on conserving water.

“Water does not resist. Water flows. When you plunge your hand into it, all you feel is a caress. Water is not a solid wall, it will not stop you. But water always goes where it wants to go, and nothing in the end can stand against it. Water is patient. Dripping water wears away a stone. Remember that, my child. Remember you are half water. If you can't go through an obstacle, go around it. Water does.”

Our project in Araling Panlipunan was to make an slogan about conservation of water. Our artist, Omar Karam, designed the painting. First we buy the necessary tools; like the canvas and paints. After Omar draw the slogan, we helped painting the canvas. We enjoyed painting the slogan.

Nothing in the world is more flexible and yielding than water. Yet when it attacks the firm and the strong, none can withstand it, because they have no way to change it. So the flexible overcome the adamant, the yielding overcome the forceful. Everyone knows this, but no one can do it.

RETREAT

RETREAT: LIVING A LIFE OF LOVE

Retreat gives us something to learn about ourselves and to reflect with others. My experience coming or joining the retreat events are special. Though, this year I really learned something that make me realize something that I didn't know through the years of living. I became more mature in doing things and doing good deeds to others because of knowing of God’s presence. One of the discussions there was, “What is my purpose here on earth” that the speaker told us some points of what It really my purpose here on earth. This year our topic is about love (live a life of love), that he told us that premature sex and other types of it are the causes of many despair in life, also he discussed/ taught us some lessons that can make me closer to God and closer to everyone.

We have different purpose in life but living by loving yourself and others are the good things I learned. Understanding the struggles in life made strong bonds among us and had a great time with each other. These events or happenings in life come once in a lifetime that we can learn some on it. You’ll feel renewed and refreshed before you sleep and when you woke up that you can feel the love of God flowing from your body. God loves us that’s why he give us his son to vanquished our sins and left the Bible to learn many lessons, life is full of love and always treat others as you treat yourselves. Our purpose in life is to serve God and to share the good news in life.

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” JOHN 3:16

WORSHIP

WORSHIP EXPERIENCE: LESSONS

Every Sunday my family and I always go to church masses for the sake of learning new things and lessons in life. Every church has its own ways of expressing / teaching about the word of God but they have the same goal of spreading the good news to the people who need it and to give motivations through real life situations. Last Sunday, the pastor talked about the songs on the book psalms that according to him there are people who keep their feelings locked inside that they don’t want to bother people around them. The songs on the book of psalms touched our hearts because of never ending lessons and praise & worship for God. I learned many things from Church’s mass and reflect it on my life. The bible gives us advice and guidelines on how we live our life,
it sometimes tells us stories that are similar to ours. Every Sunday has its own topics and each of it really are exciting and enjoyable because our souls gained hope and we can get mind blowing stories My experiences from worship Sundays were so amazing that until today I can really motivates me and energizes me to live my life with God and with his son the Lord Jesus Christ.
We really need to go on a Church to experience his full presence and to have a community which is doing the same thing we do. I have no favorite topic or Sunday mass discussion because every teaching of the pastors is really great that they are all my number one. Great experiences and lessons are important in life because from it you can move forward with a better attitude and better understanding of life which we learned from the experience we had in the past.

“You keep the track of all my sorrow, you have collected all my tears in your bottle, you have recorded each one in your book" Psalms 56:8

LIFE VERSE

LIFE VERSE: "WE LIVE BY FAITH, NOT BY SIGHT"
2 CORINTHIANS 5:7

For my generation, we are living on a gadgets and visual world. We often judge people on what we see and sometimes we give up because we see it so hard to do. We struggle because of what we are seeing on the outside but not in the inside. In the example of the
movie book of Eli, there is a man that is blind who keep on walking even if he don’t know where he was going and even if he don’t see what lies ahead. For me this verse has a special meaning because my life and this verse are similar. It makes me special and it gives me motivation when it comes to my everyday life. It changes what I do in many ways and it makes my life move according to what God plans it for me. Living by faith means we live on the word of God and doing what he taught. He lives in me; I’m faithful to him that’s why my problems are easily solved. I always let God decide what I’ll do and choosing what comes after I decide something. Living a life in faith is just so good for inner beauty (soul) and for good deeds. God made us all to share in his teaching and to have faith in him, yet we always judge his magnificent creation by its outer appearances. My life had been so great ever since I accepted the Lord as my savior.

WORSHIP

Do you go to church every Sunday? If you do, you must know or experienced worshiping God. If not, please make it a habit to go to church. It is our responsibility as Christians. Worshiping God means that we praise Him and appreciate the things that he has given to us. Even though God doesn't need our worship, it doesn't that we should stop from worshiping Him. We are still his sons and daughters. We should show to Him that we are strong against Satan’s power.

The most sacred worship is the Holy mass. Honestly, I am not a catholic, I am a Born again Christian. In our church we referred it as Sunday service. Born again service is far from the catholic mass. In our church, we praise and worship god through clapping our hands with joy and singing whole heatedly. We sing 2 kinds of music for praise and for worship. Praise songs are the lively ones while worship songs are the slow songs. As we praise him we lift our hands and say our adoration and thanksgiving to him.

Worship is not just in church, but also applied in our daily acts. If we worship Him, we should always obey his commandments. Worshiping is not just under the roofs of the church, but what’s more important is what you do outside.

RETREAT

Have you experience having a retreat? If you ask me, I've attended two different retreats. I want to share to you my experiences in my recent retreat. It was on September 18-19 2013 at Capuchin retreat , Lipa, Batangas. I will share to you my unforgettable moments and the lessons I've gained.

One unforgettable moment was our class sharing. Everyone in our section shared something about their life. I thought that I knew my classmates but that change when they shared their personal life. For example you know someone that person always laugh and doesn't take anything seriously, that laugh was only a facade hiding his/her problems in life. So never judge a person, easily you have to know him/ her better. Last unforgettable moment was our free time. During that period we can go around the vicinity. The place was so peaceful. I've
reflected what I've done wrong in the past.

Live a life of love, our theme in the retreat I felt the love of God in our retreat. I felt closer to God because of the activities we’ve done God sacrificed his one and only son, Jesus just to save us from our sins. Because of us Jesus suffered much. It breaks my heart every time I
watch that clip from the movie “the passion” where Jesus was crucified. I realize that I should appreciate the things god has given to us. So we should always be thankful for pour lives. Every day I pray, I thanked God for all the things he has given to me. Even I have problems God is always besides me. He guides and protects me everywhere I go. I trust God with all my life. If you trust God he will light your way until you’re with him in his kingdom

LIFE VERSE

LIFE VERSE:
IF ANY OF YOU LACKS WISDOM, YOU SHOULD ASK GOD, WHO GIVES GENEROUSLY TO ALL WITHOUT FINDING FAULT, AND IT WILL BE GIVEN TO YOU.
                          James 1:5
Does anyone of you have a life verse? What is a life verse? It is a bible verse that you carry in life. It can motivate you; inspire you to do things in your life. Let me share my life verse and the story behind it. It goes back when I was in elementary. If my memory serves me right, I learned that verse from our devotion in our school. It hit me, because all I was experiencing was problems; problems in academic and in personal life. You know teenager years, full of changes and adjustments. I learned from this verse that if you need wisdom, pray to god and he will give you wisdom to solve any problems you face.

Now, that verse is still I my heart. Keeping me inspired to study harder. I know that in every challenge I face God is with me. I also learned that you should also study hard. That verse doesn't mean that God will pour knowledge to you. You should also do your part. There’s a saying that “do the Best and God will do the rest”. Study hard and pray before anything else. God will surely guide you to that top. So I leave you with this,

“Pray first before anything else, if only you do your part”.

WORSHIP (JEOM)

I worship God by going to mass every Sunday. I hear the gospel and the homily of the priest. I always give my full attention when listening to the mass because it is my way of worship. Praying to him every night before i go to bed is my habit. When i pray at night, i adore him first and then thank him for everything he has given me, for the guidance, love and the blessings that he continue to pour us. That's how i worship God. Yesterday, when i listened to the homily of the priest and then i realized that we need to have more faith in God for he is the most powerful being. He can do everything if he wanted to. We must cherish every blessing that he has given and about to give to us in the future because all of us are blessed but in many different ways so let us cherish all of it.

RETREAT (JEOM)

I am Joshua Emmanuel Montero of Trinity University of Asia. Im a fourth year student and a transferee from San Beda College. I just want to sharemy retreat experience with my new classmates and batchmates. We had a lot of preparation before the retreat for us to be well presented in the programs. When we arrived in Capuchin Retreat Center in Lipa, Batangas, I felt excited because i knew that the retreat would be fun. Our first assignment was to eat and got to the room that we're assigned to. We rested for 30 mins and then proceeded to the session hall for our first program. We listened to the talk of the speaker and then we did an activity. We had fun because they let us go around the place and enjoyed the fresh air with our friends before our dinner. After dinner, we watched some videos and then shared our problems  with my classmates one by one. Most of us were emotional but we understood why. It was a fun day for us because we get to know each other more. The next day, we went back to the campus. After the retreat, i got home and rested. I gave the letter to my mother and she hugged me. After that, i realized that i needed them more in my life because many of us have broken families and i have a complete family, living in the same house and close to one another. I thank God for that blessing.
